Harvest Day Church is a Gospel centered, transcultural, multigenerational church, West of Johannesburg, South Africa. We are passionate about missions, impacting communities around us and partnering meaningfully with other churches in South Africa and globally sharing the good news of Jesus Christ.
Our History
Founded in September 2015, Harvest Day Church has grown from a small gathering of believers to a vibrant community committed to spreading the love of Christ. The church was initially planted in Ruimsig where we were based for 5 years, after which we relocated to Muldersdrift in October 2020. Since then, the church has continued to grow and expand in its impact, reaching new people from various parts of Mogale City and other parts of Johannesburg.
As we prepare to celebrate 10 years of existence in Q4 2025, we reflect on the fact that our journey has been marked by many testimonies of God’s grace, supernatural provision and changed lives, reflecting God’s faithfulness throughout the years.
Our Vision & Mission
At Harvest Day Church, we have a vision, and passion is to see people transformed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are building a vibrant COMMUNITY that will be an effective representation of the Kingdom of God. We are committed to investing in people and investing into eternity, guiding our community to live out their faith in everyday life.
Our Lead Pastors
Jay-Jay and Palesa Ngwenya lead the team that leads Harvest Day Church. Pastor Jay has been an ordained minister of the gospel since November 2001. Since then, he has been part of pastoral teams at 4 different churches, before Harvest Day Church was planted.
They are both seasoned ministers, gifted in preaching, teaching the word of God and in music ministry. They have travelled extensively around SA and to various countries in Africa and abroad preaching the Gospel. They are committed to discipling believers in becoming faithful and committed followers of Jesus Christ, are passionate about reaching the unreached and unchurched communities with the message of salvation, hope & restoration – while raising leaders and believers to serve the church – as well as inspiring, coaching, and mentoring believers to live out their God-given purpose. They have been married for 21 years and are blessed with 2 children.
Our Leaders
Our church is led by a dedicated team committed to serving our congregation and community. We are an eldership led church and working in a primary partnership with New Covenant Ministries International. We also have trusted leaders in the USA and South Africa who regularly speak into the life & affairs of the church and into our Lead Pastors’ lives.
Three couples are responsible for the leadership and direction of the church, Jay-Jay & Palesa Ngwenya; Enock & Sweetness Mhlanga; and Martin & Mercha Mkhabela.
Our Core Beliefs
1. We believe that the Bible is the Word of God and is inspired by God as it was originally given and is infallible.
2 Timothy 3:16 “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction,
and for training in righteousness…”
2. We believe that the Bible’s authority is above any idea, opinion and experience, and is the only acceptable standard for life, ministry and conduct in the church.
Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
3. We believe God the Creator has revealed Himself as one God, existing eternally in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit: distinguishable but indivisible.
Matthew 28:19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,…”
4. We believe the Lord Jesus Christ, fully God and fully man, was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary and is the Saviour of humanity.
Matthew 1:23 “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel”
5. We believe God created humanity in His image, but humans rebelled through sin against God and became spiritually dead, totally depraved and eternally separated from God.
Isaiah 59:2 “…but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.”
6. We believe Jesus Christ died on the cross as the substitutionary sacrifice for the sins of humanity. He was buried and then resurrected on the third day, appearing to His disciples.
1 Corinthians 15:1-7 “Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our
sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles.”
7. We believe Jesus Christ ascended into heaven, in His exaltation as heavenly High Priest and His personal, literal and bodily return to earth a second time when He will judge the living and the dead.
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 “But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words.”
8. We believe that the Holy Spirit convicts sinners of sin and reveals Jesus Christ to them so that by grace, through repentance and faith in the complete work of Jesus Christ crucified; they will have forgiveness of sin and be spiritually recreated. That from the moment of conversion He makes His dwelling place in the true believer. He lives within us as Comforter and Empower-er to produce the fruit of the Spirit and through us expresses God’s gifts of grace.
Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 & John 15:16
9. We believe that the baptism with the Holy Spirit follows the salvation experience and is a distinct experience in the life of the believer after conversion. Is evidenced, by speaking in untaught languages, and other Gifts of the Holy Spirit. As believers we continually receive His in-filling which transforms us and equips us for the work of the ministry.
(Acts 19:2-6) Acts 10:45-47 “And the believers from among the circumcised who had come with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out even on the Gentiles. For they were hearing them speaking in tongues and extolling God. Then Peter declared, “Can anyone withhold water for baptizing these
people, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?”
10. We believe the Holy Spirit indwells believers and guides and comforts them through distributing gifts of the Spirit and leads believers to demonstrate the fruit of the Spirit. (1 Corinthians 6:19)
1 Corinthians 3:16 “Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?” Galatians 5:22-23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”
11. We believe the gifts of Christ and of the Holy Spirit in operation are essential to the ministry of the church and are given as a believer's desire and as Christ and the Holy Spirit intend.
Ephesians 4:11-13 “And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the
fullness of Christ, …”
1 Corinthians 12:8-11 “For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.”
12. We believe in prayer, i.e. believers talking with God at specific times corporately and all the time individually, to line up with God’s will and to receive what is requested from Him.
Ephesians 6:18-19 “…praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, …”
13. We believe the company of the called-out ones, the church, is the community where all believers join together like a loving family to pursue the work of the ministry of Jesus Christ.
Colossians 3:15-17 “And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And
whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
Hebrews 10:24-25 “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”
14. We believe that God uses different activities in the life of the church as a means to bring blessing and grace to people. Therefore, to neglect regular devotion to The Teaching of the Word, Prayer, Worship, Discipleship, Giving, Fellowship and Evangelism is to miss out on the grace, reward, privilege and destiny God has made available to His people.
Not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. – Hebrews 10:25
And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. – Acts 2:42
Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. – 2 Corinthians 9:7, 8
15. We believe in water baptism by immersion as a confession by the believer in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ and as an expression of faith and obedience to His command.
Acts 8:12 “But when they believed Philip as he preached good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.”
Acts 8:35-36 Then Philip opened his mouth and beginning with this Scripture he told him the good news about Jesus. And as they were going along the road they came to some water, and the eunuch said, “See, here is water! What prevents me from being baptized?”
16. We believe in the Lord’s Supper, called communion or breaking of bread, where bread and the cup are symbols of remembering Jesus’ sacrifice, and for self-examination and thanksgiving.
1 Corinthians 11:23-28 “For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way also he took the cup, after supper,
saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.
For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes. Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty concerning the body and blood of the Lord. Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup.”
17. We believe in eternal life for the believer, and eternal punishment for the unbeliever who has rejected the sacrifice of Jesus Christ as Saviour.
(2 Thessalonians 1:7-10 & Revelation 20:11-15)
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
John 5:24 “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment but has passed from death to life.”
18. We believe in the priesthood of all believers where each member of the Body of Christ has been gifted to play their part in the ministry of the church.
“You yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood” – 1 Peter 2:5
19. We believe in the loving inclusion and invitation of the Gospel of Peace to all people of all races and nations. Therefore, we intentionally obey Jesus’ Great Commission to disciple people in our cities, our countries and the nations of the whole world
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” – Matthew 28:19, 20
20. We believe in the biblical pattern of marriage between a natural man and a natural woman.
“Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ 5 and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh?” – Matthew 19: 4-5
“Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral” – Hebrews 13:4
